As you cross out of Massachussets, you can breathe a sigh of relief. Vermont Route 100 starts out life on the southern Massachussets border as a double route tacked onto the older "interstate" Route 8(CT - MA - VT). The first town in Vermont is Stamford. It is usually easier to go north on VT 8 in Heartwellville to VT 9 East than keep on VT 100 if you are heading to VT 9, Wilmington and points north, like all the ski areas.
